Alberta Jincy Asher, age 95, of Quincy, formerly of Loraine passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Blessing Hospital. She was born in Warsaw, IL on February 1, 1929, the daughter of Lafayette Harrison and Frances Carrie (Shair) Frazer. On November 6, 1953, she married Oscar Eugene Asher from Loraine, IL. He passed away on April 25, 2007.
Alberta grew up on the family farm in Warsaw. She moved in with her aunt, Ida Lander, after both of her parents passed away before her 16th birthday. She attended Warsaw High School and continued her education in business at Gem City Business College in Quincy. She worked as a secretary for O.E. McCartney, an attorney in Hamilton, Illinois and then for Union Electric in Keokuk, Iowa. Upon her marriage to Eugene, she moved to the family farm near Loraine and lived there until 2014.
Alberta was a member of the United Methodist Church of Loraine where she was a Sunday School teacher. In March, she would have celebrated her 70th year of membership in the Order of Eastern Star. She was first a member of the Loraine Chapter where she was Worthy Matron four times. Upon its closure she became a member of the Mendon Chapter and then the Browning Chapter #262 in Denver, Illinois. She also volunteered at North Adams Home and with the Adams County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.
Surviving are her three sons: Terry (Susan) of Quincy, David of Lima and Daniel (Brenda) of Mascoutah, IL; grandchildren, Michael Asher of Mt. Sterling, IL, Samuel (Julia) Asher of Georgetown, TX, Brent (Heidi) Asher of Shiloh, IL and Brooke (Juan) Santana of Mascoutah, IL; great grandchildren, Ella Hodge, Emerson Asher, Joaquin and Sofia Santana. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Preceding her in death was her husband, parents, brother Wilbur (Cora) Frazer, and aunt Ida Lander.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the Loraine Community Church with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Reverend Larry Menschel officiating. Interment will follow in the New Loraine Cemetery in Loraine. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois. Immediately following the visitation, the Browning Chapter #262 will conduct a public Eastern Star service beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Loraine Community Church. The Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
