Arlene Schmiedeskamp

Arlene F. Schmiedeskamp, 97, of Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Fowler passed away at 6:55 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Sunset Home in Quincy, Illinois. She was born on August 25, 1926, in LaPrairie, Illinois, a daughter of Joseph and Ethel (Ferrell) Hendricks. She married Donald L. Schmiedeskamp on March 31, 1946, at the Camp Point Christian Church in Camp Point Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2007, after 61years of marriage.

Arlene was a 1944 graduate of Camp Point High School and attended Gem City Business College. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Mendon and a member of the Adams County Republican Women’s Club. She was a farm wife. Arlene and Don retired from farming in 1987.When she sold her home at 2611 North 12th Street, Quincy, it was turned into an Airbnb, Arlene’s Retreat.

Arlene enjoyed getting together for family holidays and birthday parties. She never missed her great grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. Arlene attended every day of the Adams County Fair until she was no longer able to. She worked in the church stand serving plate lunches and brought her home-made pies to sell. She won many blue ribbons for her angel food cake and home-made noodles as well. Arlene and Don received an award for their continued support of the Adams County Fair for over 60 years. She loved to bake and cook, often giving her cinnamon rolls and goodies to friends and family.

Arlene is survived by her son, Kurt Schmiedeskamp of Quincy, Illinois; grandchildren, Kari (Corey) Luckhaupt of Fowler, Illinois, Kraig (Kelsey) Schmiedeskamp of Camp Point, Illinois, Kesi (Brock) Brackensick of Ursa, Illinois; great grandchildren, Gage Bruns, Brayden (Haley Dotson) and Brennan Luckhaupt, Kiptyn and Kiya Schmiedeskamp, and Braylee, Brynlee, Bexlee, and twins Bellamy and Bracey Brackensick. Cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Donald, sons, Phil, Leslie and Jeffrey Schmiedeskamp.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. Steve Disseler to officiate. Interment will follow at The Ellington Home Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church for the Lift Project or to the Adams County Fair.
