Cecil Lewis Adair

January 4, 1954 — November 5, 2022

Nauvoo

Cecil Lewis Adair, 68, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 2:05 PM, at his home. He was born on January 4, 1954, in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Leo and Betty Courtois Adair. On March 30, 1993, he married Anita Lucey at Crested Butte, Colorado. She survives in Nauvoo.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one brother, Joseph (Cynthia) Adair of Warsaw, Illinois; two sisters-in-law: Donna Cody of Quincy, Illinois, and Angela (Eric) Harting of Olympia, Washington; two brothers-in-law:  Dan (Janice) Lucey of Quincy, Illinois, and Jeff (Jan) Lucey of Radcliff, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roger Adair.

Cecil attended Rockford Elementary School and Warsaw High School, graduating in 1972.  He earned a degree in English education from Western Illinois University, but remained on the farm, loving his animals and Mother Nature. Cecil’s clever sense of humor was evident in his excellent storytelling skills. He had a soulful voice with the gift of gab, and was generous to a fault, never knowing a stranger! He loved buying gifts to share with others and was known to provide baseballs and bats to any child without one. Cecil was an excellent cook and enjoyed sports, pitching softball and baseball in his younger years. It was often said that he was loyal “from here to there.”  He enjoyed mushroom and geode hunting, motorcycles, boat races, and loved snow-skiing. Cecil was a sentimental guy who could be counted on by family and friends. In short, he was the gift that kept on giving.
