Daniel “Otis” Cannell, 47, of Mendon, Illinois, passed away after a yearlong struggle with cancer at 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born February 9, 1974 in Quincy, Illinois. He was a son of Brent Cannell and JoAnn (Leerhoff) Cannell.
Surviving are his paternal grandmother, Vivian Cannell of Mendon, maternal grandmother, Hildegarde Leerhoff of Quincy, father, Brent Cannell and his wife Vicki of Mendon, mother, JoAnn Cannell and significant other Dan Peters of Quincy, a brother, Daron Cannell and his significant other Jodi Stodgel of Mendon, two step brothers, Ken Shannon (Angela) of Palmyra, Missouri and Cody Shannon (Tiffany) of Quincy, three nephews, Aden, Korbin and Collin Cannell, uncles, Bruce Cannell and his wife Mary, Curtis Cannell and his wife Lois, aunts, Susan Chenoweth and her husband John, and Sue Kenady and her husband Merle. Several cousins and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Glen Leerhoff and paternal grandfather Henry Cannell.
Daniel was a farmer. He worked for many years at Frazier Farms. He also worked for Hesse Builders until he was elected as the Mendon Township Road Commissioner in 2018. He enjoyed socializing with friends at the Northside and Southside establishments in Mendon. He loved boating on the Mississippi and taking part in many boat trips over the years. He was a member of the Quinsippi Yacht Club.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2021 at the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon with Pastor Ronald Graham to officiate. Interment will follow at the Franklin Cemetery in rural Mendon. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the organization of the donor’s choice or to his nephew’s education fund, please make checks payable to the Cannell Education Fund.
