David Jones

David P. Jones, 79, of Rushville, passed away at 6:50 AM, Friday, November 15, 2019, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born on October 8, 1940, in Ray, Illinois, the son of Paul and Lois (Trone) Jones.  He married Peggy Logsdon on May 10, 1959, in Virginia, Illinois and she preceded him in death on August 27, 2003.

Surviving are two sons Robert “Bob” Jones of Peoria and Chris Jones and wife Amanda of Rushville, daughter-in-law Tammy Jones of Beardstown, 12 grandchildren Jerrod Jones, Kyle Jones and wife Crystal, Layne Phillips and companion Rick Darrow, Amberlea Reische and husband Daniel, Ashley Jones, Paul Jones and wife Samantha, Kylie Ebel and husband Jake, Shaun Jones, Brandon Jones and companion Samantha Michael, Dalton Jones, Liberty Jones and Gracie Jones, 17 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, four siblings Pat Unger of Rushville, Nancy Armstrong and husband Gary of Yuma, Arizona, William R. Jones and wife Linda of Geneseo, and Judy Reische of Morris, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Allen Jones and brother-in-law Joe Reische.

David was a 1958 graduate of Rushville High School and received a certificate from Texas A&M University.  He began farming shortly after graduating from high school.  He retired from grain farming in 1983, but continued to raise and show cattle for many years.  He was a meat inspector with the USDA from 1984 until his retirement in 2013.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rushville.  He enjoyed gardening, showing cattle and attending cattle sales.  He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bulls.  His passion was his grandchildren and attending all of their events.

Services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Reverend Randy McGeehon officiating.  Interment will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, November 18, 2019, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville.  Memorials are suggested to Hope Blooms or the Evergreen Place Activity Fund.
