Maxine Stratton

October 27, 1931 — September 5, 2024

D. Maxine Stratton, 92, formerly of Lima, passed away peacefully at 11:25 pm on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton, Missouri.

She was born on October 27, 1931, the daughter of the late Arthur Julius & Sarah Elizabeth (Owrey) Schlipman. Maxine was a graduate of Mendon Township High School, Class of 1949. She married Paul Eldon Stratton on May 3, 1952, in Quincy. Together they shared 43 years of marriage until his passing on October 11, 1995.

Maxine was known for her excellent cooking skills. She was employed as a cook and baker for many restaurants over her lifetime including Kaufman’s Kettle in Lima, Cassano’s in Quincy and later as owner/operator of Maxine’s Country Café and Angie’s Place. Maxine worked as a dietician for the North Adam’s Home in Mendon for eight years until her retirement. After retirement, Maxine chose to volunteer her time at the home and enjoyed serving residents ice cream, calling bingo and accompanying the “old folks” (as she lovingly called them) on trips.

She was a member of the RSVP Group and the Federated Church of Lima. Maxine always had big family dinners on holidays, birthdays and any other occasion that would warrant a get-together. She enjoyed taking family trips with her grandchildren, they would always have fun hearing her comments regarding other people’s cooking. She loved tending to her vegetable and flower gardens and in her later years, preferred to pass the time embroidering, reading and making puzzles with family and friends.

Maxine is survived by her children; Steven Paul Stratton of Sutter, Nancy A. (Larry) Mueller of Canton, Missouri, Kevin Lee (Lori) Stratton of Quincy, grandchildren; Elizabeth A “Beth” Mueller (Weaver) of Canton, Missouri, Andrew L. “Andy” Mueller (Sara Zislin) of Rochester, Minnesota, Carmen N.
