Helen Staff

Helen Kathleen Staff, 91, of Jacksonville, formerly of West Point passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

Kathleen was born on July 12, 1927 in Chambersburg to the late Harvey D. and Mamie Lee (Akin) Kallenbach. She married Norman C. Staff on May 6, 1951 in Perry. Norman survives of Jacksonville.

Kathleen was a teacher for 6 years before her marriage to Norman. She was a member of the West Point Methodist Church, where she played piano, taught Sunday School and Bible School. She later attended the United Methodist Church of Loraine. Kathleen was also a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed sewing, gardening and especially enjoyed taking care of her household.

In addition to Norman, Kathleen is survived by; two children, Carl Staff of Oquawka, Elaine Sorrill of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Michele Sorrill of Delaware, Christina Sorrill of Jacksonville; one step-grandchild, Jennifer (Matthew) Rice of Galesburg; two step-great-grandchildren, Marie and James Rice of Galesburg;  one sister, Barbara (Robert) Kopps of Griggsville and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Sandra Staff, a son-in-law, Tom Sorill and a brother in infancy, Richard Harvey Kallenbach.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 10, 2018 in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon with Reverend Connie Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in Webster Cemetery near West Point. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the United Methodist Church of Loraine or Cedarhurst Assisted Living and Memory care of Jacksonville.
