Helen L. Standbridge, 90, of Golden, Illinois formerly of Quincy, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden. She was born on January 29, 1935, in Quincy, a daughter to Wilbur and Hazel (Ferguson) Smith.
Helen attended Quincy High School. She began working for Motorola in Quincy. Later retiring from Dura Automotive in Hannibal, Missouri.
Helen had a great spirit and was a wonderful mother. She was ornery and could make almost anyone laugh. She was generous and always willing to help, especially her family. Helen cherished spending time with her family, making many wonderful memories around the kitchen table playing Yahtzee, and often winning. She had a love for seafood and looked forward to trips to Red Lobster and Kentucky Fried Chicken. She was an excellent singer and loved the time spent singing with her brother and his band. Helen also liked to read books and work crossword puzzles.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Golden Good Shepherd Home for their years of excellent care.
Helen is survived by her son, Terry (Ruby) Hester of Mendon; two grandchildren, Terry (Emma) Hester, Jr. of Missouri, Donnette (Jeff) Malcomson of Clayton; two step grandchildren, Ryan and Ken Sum of Hong Kong; several great grandchildren; nieces, Glenda Ragar, Robin (Rodney) Whaley and Dawn Ufkes; nephew, Rick (Jan) Decker
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; daughter, Jonda K. Rhea; sister, Mary (Glenn) Decker and an infant sister, Dorothy Mae Smith; brother, Gene (Judy) Smith; two special nieces, Debbie Decker and Gena Smith Dewitt.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Canton, Missouri. Pastor Brian Stone to officiate. Inurnment will be in the New Loraine Cemetery in Loraine, Illinois at a later date.
Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Golden Good Shepherd Home.
Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon has been entrusted with the arrangements for Helen.
