James Mealiff

James Robert Mealiff, 77, of Mendon, passed away at 6:30 PM, Saturday, November 6, 2021, at his home.

He was born on March 18, 1944, in Quincy, the son of Ernest and Alice (White) Mealiff.  He married Margaret Rice on July 18, 1970, at the Clarence Christian Church in Clarence, Missouri.  She preceded him in death on January 4, 2021.

Surviving are one son Peter Mealiff of Quincy, three brothers Paul (Jessie) Mealiff, of Quincy, Richard (Debbie) Mealiff of Mendon and Dr. Roger (Penny) Mealiff of Howards Grove, WI, one sister Sue (Steven) Phillips of Greenview, three brothers-in-law George (Sherry) Rice of Nashville, IN, John (Michelle) Rice of Hughesville, MO and Paul Rice of Clarence, MO, one sister-in-law Sheryl (Terry) Echternacht of Macon, MO and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister-in-law Glenna Mealiff and a niece Jennifer Rice.

Jim was a 1962 graduate of Unity High School and attended college in Iowa.  He was a farmer his entire life.  He also worked for over 20 years at Walmart in Quincy, assembling bicycles and furniture, retiring in 2012.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Quincy, where he served as Stewardship Secretary, he served as secretary of the Mendon Masonic Lodge #449 A.F. & A.M. and the Quincy Consistory.  He helped with Boy Scout Troop #3 in Quincy, while Peter was active.  He enjoyed taking drives to admire the scenery and tinkering around.  After his retirement, he enjoyed and took great pride in mowing and maintaining his property.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the Central Baptist Church, 321 North Seventh St., Quincy, with Reverend Jason Sommerfeldt and Dr. Roger Mealiff officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mendon Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon, with Masonic Rites by Mendon Masonic Lodge #449 A.F. & A.M. following the visitation.  Memorials are suggested to the Central Baptist Church.
