James Richard “Jim” Tieken, 93, of East Peoria, formerly of the Mendon Area passed away at 4:40 A.M on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Heartland Health Care Center-Riverview in East Peoria.

Jim was born on January 9, 1924 in Mendon to the late James H. and Myrtle (Dittmer) Tieken. He married Dorothy Smith on January 11,1946 in Blue Island. Dorothy passed away on October 21, 2009.

Jim was a retired farmer. He graduated from Mendon Township High School and answered the call to serve his country during World War II in the 5th Air Force which was part of the Army Air Corps. He flew 47 missions during the war and was awarded the Air Medal with oak leaf cluster and the Asiatic Pacific Theater medal with 6 bronze stars.

Jim was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Mendon, serving on the church council for many years, and the American Legion.

Surviving are; two children, Richard (Katie) Tieken of East Peoria, Patricia (Don) Grant of Hennepin; one step-daughter, Nancy Smith of Indianapolis, IN.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; one brother, Lloyd Tieken; sisters, Doris Landis, Wilma Scott, Elizabeth Linnenburger and Mary Hesse.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Hunter Funeral in Mendon with Mallorie Egbers officiating. Interment will be in the Mendon Cemetery with Military Rites by the Bear Creek American Legion and Macomb Funeral Honors Detail. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Friday, August 25, 2017 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions have been suggested to the American Legion or the Donor’s Choice.
