Jane Brassington Rigsbee, 95, of Mendon, passed away at 7:50 PM, Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at St. Vincent’s Home in Quincy, where she had been a resident since early November.
She was born on November 22, 1925, in Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, the daughter of Claire E. and Mary Belle (Dickey) Brassington.
Jane graduated from Harvey High School with the Class of 1943, Nyack Bible Institute, in Nyack, New York, and the Swedish Covenant School of Nursing in Chicago.
On June 2, 1951, in Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, she married Howard P. Rigsbee, who preceded her in death in 2001. To this union was born one son, David.
In April of 1952, Jane began a new chapter in her life as a farm wife, when they moved from LaGrange, Illinois, to the family farm near Brooklyn, Schuyler County, Illinois. At the same time, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Dr. Paul Breckner’s office in Plymouth and later at the Augusta Shelter Care in Augusta and the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. She lived on the family farm for over 60 years. Jane moved to Mendon in 2015 and made her home for the last 5 years next door to her son.
She enjoyed tole painting with the Western Illinois Tole Society, doing puzzles and was an avid reader. She also was the reporter of the Guinea Community news for the Macomb Daily Journal and The Eagle Scribe.
She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church near Colchester, Illinois. For many years, she was a Sunday School teacher.
Jane is survived by her son David Rigsbee and wife Diane of Mendon, two granddaughters, Karen Lee and husband Ben of Bloomington, Illinois and Nancy Geissler and husband Mark of Quincy, Illinois. Four great grandchildren, Marcus and Nathan Lee of Bloomington and Claire and Lee Geissler of Quincy. One sister, Caroline Shoberg and husband Kenneth of Wheaton, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard, a brother John Brassington and two sisters, Joyce Seeley and husband Tedd and Mary Brassington.
Private family services will be held at the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon, with Pastor Jim Richardson officiating. Committal Services will be held for the public at 2:30 PM, Friday, February 19, 2021, at the Scott Cemetery, east of Plymouth. Memorials are suggested to the Scott Cemetery.
