John H. Frese

John Henry Frese, 84, of Mendon Illinois, passed away at 1:10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at his home. He was born on April 27, 1940, in Quincy, Illinois, a son of the late Lawrence and Catherine (Voss) Frese. He married Kathleen “Kathy” Ohnemus on May 5, 1962, at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Mendon, Illinois. She survives.

John attended Fowler Grade School and graduated from Unity High School in 1958, where he was active in sports, breaking a school track record. He took computer classes through John Wood Community College and sold American Life Insurance. John was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, St. Edward’s Holy Name Society where he held many offices in the Society. He had served on the Federal Land Bank Board. He was a member of the Mendon Lion’s Club where he held several offices, Adams County Old Tyme Association, Eagles Alps, Desperado Dance Club, QCity Outlaws, Adams County Pork Producers, Adams County Farm Bureau and served his country in the Illinois National Guard 126 Ordinance.

John was self-employed as a farmer. He had worked at Speedrack for several years, Schofield/Ivesco Veterinary Supply while still farming. He retired from Ivesco Veterinary Supply on December 31, 2011. He bowled for many years in a league at Unity Lanes in Mendon, Illinois. He loved to country line dance performing at Six Flags in St. Louis, Missouri and the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, Tennessee. He loved to travel, traveling to Germany, Canada, and many states in the United States. He loved spending time with his family and spoiling his great grandchildren. His special hobbies were growing fruit trees in his orchard, watching birds, fishing and mowing his yard.

John is survived by his wife, Kathy, three children, Cindy (Todd Schneider) Corrigan of Quincy, Illinois, Dan (Lorie) Frese and Karen (Ron) Gooding both of Mendon, Illinois; grandchildren, Christi (Craig) Phillips of Quincy, Illinois, Kelly (Bobby) Baker of Quincy, Illinois, Ashley (Billy) Shipley of Roodhouse, Illinois, Travis (Sara) Corrigan of Quincy, Illinois, Dylan Gooding of Panama City, Florida, Samantha (Brian) Jones of West Des Moines, Iowa, Lauren (Alex) Schmidt of Sheffield, Illinois, Kayla Frese of Sheffield, Illinois, Jeff (Amanda) West of Springfield, and David (Jennifer) West of Bay Minette, Alabama; 17 great grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Rita) Frese of Mendon, Illinois; sisters, Nancy (Bob) Zanger of Quincy, Illinois, Pat (Dave Kruger) Ellerman of Springfield, Illinois, and Mary (Rob Partridge) Przada of Florida, and Donna (Tom) Burgdoeffer of Knob Noster, Missouri; brother-in-law, Jerry Fee of Quincy, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Jan Frese of Alabama, Bonnie (Brent) Voth, Mary Ohnemus, and Barb Stolte, all from Mendon, Illinois; Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

John was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Andrew Frese; great granddaughter, Valerie Frese; brother Mark Frese; sister, Carlene Fee; brothers-in-law, Dick Ellerman, Bill Junkerman, Joe Altgilbers and Ted Przada, Leroy Ohnemus, Paul Valeu, and Ron Valeu.

John was a loving husband and grandfather and was known for his kindness and willingness to help anyone in need, he will be deeply missed by his family and anyone who knew him.

As per John’s request all those who attend the funeral are invited to wear casual clothing.

A Prayer Service will he held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 9:30 at the Triplett Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edwards the Confessor Catholic Church in Mendon, Illinois. Fr. Scott Snider to officiate. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Calvary Cemetery in Quincy, Illinois. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, Blessing Hospice or the American Diabetes Association.
