Karen E Shaffer

Karen E. Shaffer, 75, of Ursa, Illinois passed away at 11:59 a.m. on Wednesday June 12, 2024, at Blessing Hospital. She was born on May 26, 1949, in Keokuk, Iowa, a daughter of Earl and Eloise (Robertson) Stevenson. She married David Shaffer on September 1, 1973, at the Bowen Christian Church. He survives.

Karen graduated from Bowen High School. She was the Secretary/Treasurer for the Village of Ursa. She was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 823. Karen enjoyed crocheting and vegetable gardens. The family would like to extend their gratefulness to the doctors and nurses at Blessing Hospital for their excellent care.

She is survived by her husband, David of Ursa; a daughter, Carrie (J.R.) Powell of Palmyra, Missouri; a son Jeff (Michelle) Shaffer of Imperial, Missouri; granddaughters, Olivia Shaffer, Brittany (Zane) Higgins; grandsons, Cole (Michayla Jackson) Carver, Beau Powell; great grandchildren, Vivian and Chapel Higgins; her twin brother, Kent (Sheila) Stevenson of Dewitt, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Gary (Janet) Shaffer of Hannibal, Missouri and Duane (Pam) Shaffer of Ursa, Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Shaffer of Marcelline, Illinois. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. 

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law, Leona Shaffer; father-in-law, Vern Shaffer; son-in-law, Jeromy Shepherd; brother Norbert in infancy; brother-in-law, LaVern Shaffer; nephew, Patrick Stevenson; and niece, Cindy Shaffer.

A Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at the Triplett Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Mendon, Illinois. Fr. Scott Snider to officiate. Interment will follow at New Providence Cemetery in Ursa, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a family prayer service to be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post #823 or Ladies of St. Edward Catholic Church.
