Kenneth Janssen

Kenneth Janssen, 81, of Golden IL., passed away at 12:25 pm on Monday May 23, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Kenneth was born on January 16, 1941 in Quincy, IL., the son of Fritz M. and Eldora W. (Schoene) Janssen.  He married Mary Elizabeth Buss on April 5, 1959 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden. He graduated from Central High School in Camp Point. Kenneth worked as a meat cutter for the Golden Locker for many years, and retired from Houser Meats in Rushville.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and the SouthEastern Iowa Sportsman’s Society. Kenneth was the former treasurer and board member of the Community for Christ Assistance Center in Camp Point, as well as former member of the Golden Village Board. He was the former Fire Chief of the Golden Volunteer Fire Department.

Kenneth enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, deer hunting with his black powder rifle, fishing, camping, woodworking, and gardening. He also enjoyed making knives with deer antler handles, sharing his garden produce with his neighbors, and storytelling.

Kenneth is survived by one daughter; Tracy Kurfman of Golden, IL., and one son; Timothy Janssen of Golden, IL., three granddaughters; Emily Royalty of Norfolk, VA., Elizabeth ( Bryan ) Tobin of Woodstock, IL. and Sarah Kurfman of Rolling Meadows, IL., two sisters; Mary Jean (Roger) Bienhoff of Hills, IA. and Sharon (Red) Cain of Carbondale, CO.

He was preceded in death by his wife; Mary, his parents; son in law; Randy Kurfman, and  step mother; Mildred Janssen.

Visitation and Funeral Service:  Family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 pm on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Triplett Funeral Home in Golden and from 1:00-2:00 pm on Sunday, May 29, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 29, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden with Rev. Jeff Corson officiating.

Burial will take place at Golden Community Cemetery.
