Kurt Lee Thompson, 71, of Quincy, Illinois, passed away at 11:38pm, on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, with his family by his side.

Kurt was born on March 10, 1952, in Knoxville, Iowa to Leland “Buck”, and Dorothy (Hill) Thompson. Kurt was one of five children and after graduation, Kurt enlisted with the US Marine Corps until his retirement in 1990, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant.  On September 16, 2001, Kurt married Cathy Daugherty at their surprise wedding at Their annual fall BBQ in the backyard with 100 close friends and family, and together they shared 22 wonderful years together.

One of Kurt’s biggest hobbies was keeping track of Cathy.  A meticulous and organized man, Kurt was very adept at computers and electronics, and he was never far from a computer. He organized and planned all their many vacations to Mexico and Jamacia. No sooner would they get home than Kurt was online scouting out where their next adventure would be. Kurt loved caring for his home and yard, enjoyed having family and friends over.  He also loved movies, and he and Cathy frequently enjoyed spending time together watching their shows.  Kurt will be missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.

Kurt is survived by his loving wife of exactly 22 years, Cathy; his son, Andrew “AJ” Thompson of Macon, Missouri; and daughter Michelle Santigo of Erie, Pennsylvania; stepdaughters Danyielle Jones of Bloomington, Illinois, and Angela Jones, of Quincy, Illinois; sisters Sally Stanley, and Lou Thompson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and mother-in-law, Carol Daugherty, and brother in-law Joe (Cathy) Daugherty.

Kurt was preceded in death by his parents, brother Raymond Thompson, and sister Jeanie McCarty.

There will be a graveside Memorial Service with full military honors for Kurt at 2:00pm, on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Home Cemetery in Fowler, Illinois. Pastor Ron Tallcott officiating.
