Lillie A. Wilcox, 96, of Loraine, IL, passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, IL. She was born on September 11, 1928, in Loraine, IL, a daughter of John Henry and Gertie Mae (Wartick) Hardy.

Lillie married William “Bill” Wilcox on May 23, 1948, in Quincy, Illinois and they shared 71 years together. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2019.

She attended Mendon Township High School and graduated in 1946. After graduation, she began working at Halbach Schroeder Department Store. Then after getting married, she became a fulltime homemaker, mother and farm wife. She was a very active member of the United Methodist Church of Loraine working in several capacities. She also was an election judge at Loraine. She loved to cook and bake for family gatherings and church activities. Some favorites were chocolate chip cookies and all kinds of pies. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and reading her bible. She liked watching the Billy Graham crusades on TV and Wheel of Fortune. She enjoyed her Good Samaritan Home family, that included many wonderful new friends and a very loving and caring staff. Some of her favorite activities were word search, jigsaw puzzles and playing bingo. Lillie was a very selfless, compassionate, caring person for her family and others.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Rodney (Diana) Wilcox of Chesterton, IN, Randy (Kathy) Wilcox of Loraine, IL, Nancy (Roger) Staff of Greenville, IL and Mary (Bruce) Cannell of Quincy, IL; fourteen grandchildren, Dallas Wilcox, Denny Wilcox, Jacob Wilcox, Sarah Carlson, Rebekah Vandivier, William Clayton Staff, Clinton Staff, Erica Bone, Jason Wilcox, Andrew Wilcox, Timothy Wilcox, Nathan Cannell, Tyler Cannell and Jessica Willamson; forty-one great grandchildren, and nine step great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 

Lillie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William “Bill” Wilcox, Sr.; son, William “Bill” Wilcox, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Deborah Wilcox; three brothers, Orlo, John, and Adrian Hardy; a sister, Alvena Clark; and a sister-in-law, Virginia (Stauffer) Morgan.

A Funeral Service for Lillie A. Wilcox will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Loraine Community Church in Loraine, IL. Pastor Josh Vahle will officiate. Interment will immediately follow at the New Loraine Cemetery in Loraine, IL

Visitation will be held on Friday evening, November 22, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, IL.

Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Home or to the Loraine Community Church.
