Lois A. Hemming, 90, of Loraine, Illinois, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, Illinois. She was born on December 19, 1934, in Lima Township, Illinois, a daughter of Orville and Mary (Andrew) Seals. She married Donald J. Hemming on September 19, 1953, in Meyer, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 16, 2013.
Lois attended Oakridge Grade School and graduated from Unity High School. After graduation, she went to work at Quincy Speaker Company/Motorola. After the death of her father-in-law, Lois became a hard-working farmer who could drive anything except for the combine. Later in life, she professionally cleaned businesses and homes.
She loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of the Meyer Community Church and the Loraine Community Church where she was an active prayer chain caller until her late 80s. She was a talented baker and cook and was especially known for her apple, chocolate, and strawberry pies at family gatherings. She enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables. During their lifetime, she traveled with her husband throughout the United States. Lois enjoyed working on word search puzzles. Recently, she loved watching game shows and sermons on tv.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, David (Lesa) Hemming of Springfield, Sherri (Jim) Garmer of Quincy, Beverly (Ron) Gilbert, of Ursa and Marianne (Steve) Ward, of Waynesville, Missouri; six grandchildren, Justin (Steffani) Hemming, Nathan (Kristen Olson) Hemming, Matthew (Blair) Garmer, Brad (Cassie) Duncan, Sarah (Brandon) Pemberton, and Jessica Ward; great grandchildren, Maddi, Cooper, Aylah, Ivy, Holden, Cameron, Kinsley, David, Darcy, and Nora; a brother, Ray (Peggy) Seals; sisters-in-law, Pauline Seals and Lavon Hemming. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law; husband, Donald; sister, Betty (Albert) Nelson; brothers, Paul (Kate) Seals, and Danny Rue Seals; and also a brother-in-law, Homer Hemming, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Loraine Community Church in Loraine, Illinois. Pastor Larry Menschel to officiate. Interment will immediately follow at the Franklin Cemetery, rural Mendon.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon and on Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the Loraine Community Church or to the Loraine Fire Department.
