He was born on Jan. 30, 1948, in Bowen to Wilke C. and Fannie B. Saathoff Gronewold. He married Vicky Eggman on Dec. 26, 1971, in Golden. She survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran from Jan. 4, 1968, to Dec. 14, 1969, serving in Vietnam.
Mark worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. as a machinist in buildings KK and HH for 35 years, retiring in 2001. He was also a committee member for Boy Scouts Troop No. 163 in Washington (Ill.) for 18 years.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael J. of Washington (Ill.) and Matthew W. of East Peoria; one daughter, Regina M. Gronewold of East Peoria; two grandchildren, Tyler and Taylor Hitesman; two brothers, Richard (Lola) Gronewold of Golden and David (Susan) Gronewold of Clayton; one sister, Jolene Gonzalez of Fayetteville, Ga.; his mother, Fannie Gronewold of Golden, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mark was preceded in death by his father.
SERVICES: 2 p.m. Monday in the Hunter Funeral Home in Golden. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Golden.
VISITATIONS: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory, 2075 Washington Road, Washington (Ill.), with a time of remembrance at 4 p.m. A second visitation will be Monday one hour prior to the service in the Hunter Funeral Home, Golden.
