Marla J. Spencer, 77, of Rushville, passed away at 1:34 AM, Thursday, May 7, 2020, at her daughter’s home in Springfield, surrounded by her children.
She was born on October 12, 1942, in Rushville, the daughter of Raymond and Melba (Lobb) Brocksieck. She married Dean Spencer on July 25, 1985 and he preceded her in death on July 24, 2006.
Surviving are twin daughters Sandy (Brad) Heaton of Jacksonville, Cindy (Steve) Allison of Springfield, and son Greg (Ellen) Reeves of Leroy, eight grandchildren Meagan (Guillermo) Trilnick, Emily (Marcus) Roegge, Shannon (Adam) Ham, Kyle Allison (fiance’ Olivia Davis-Carver), Matthew Allison, Nicolas Reeves, Lucas Reeves and Jacob Reeves and one great grandson William Trilnick. Also surviving is a brother, John (Carole) Brocksieck of Washington, IL and three nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Bonnie Brown.
Marla was a 1961 graduate of Rushville High School and later graduated from Lincoln Land College. She became a registered nurse, receiving her Bachelors degree from Sangamon State University in 1996. She especially enjoyed teaching at Jacksonville High School and CNA classes at local community colleges.
Marla loved being a pastor’s wife and serving the Lord. She enjoyed sewing, genealogy, and singing in various choirs. Dean and Marla enjoyed many years traveling around the country. She loved being with her family, friends and her dogs, Butch and Sugar, who brought her much joy.
She previously attended the First United Methodist Church and Church of Christ both in Rushville, and the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Alsey. She was a former member of both the Reverend James Caldwell Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Be-kik-a-nin-ee Chapter, where she served as a Past Regent. She also served as the Illinois State Chairman, NSDAR.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 11, 2020, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Reverend Stacy Tomich officiating. Interment will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 11, 2020, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville.
