M. Marie Wessinger

M. Marie Wessinger, 79, of Louisville, KY, formerly of Mendon, IL, and most recently Seneca Place Nursing Home, died peacefully Sunday, July 2, 2023, in Baptist Health Louisville Hospital.

Born September 23, 1943, in Quincy, IL, Marie was the daughter of Emil and Martha (Gerhardt) Wessinger, who were farmers. She was the youngest of three children.

As an infant, Marie was baptized on June 11, 1944, in a small country church in Tioga, IL. In 1987, she was baptized by immersion.

As a 7th grader Marie decided she wanted to be a physical therapist. In 1961, she graduated from Unity High School in Mendon, IL, where she was co-valedictorian. She received her B.S. in Chemistry from Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL in 1965. She obtained a certificate in physical therapy at Northwestern Medical School in Chicago in 1966.

Marie worked as a physical therapist in Illinois, Oklahoma, Brazil, and New York. She traveled to Brazil twice, the second time she worked in Sao Paulo. She traveled in other South American countries as well. When she moved to Louisville in 1985, she worked mostly as a home health physical therapist.

Marie enjoyed writing. She contributed numerous poetry and writings to the Dove church newsletter and wrote devotionals.

Marie is survived by a sister, Elma Stoll of Mendon, and a nephew, Larry (Barbara) Stoll of Quincy. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and a brother-in-law, Eldon Stoll.

Services will be at Bethany United Church of Christ in Tioga, IL on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at the Church prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Bethany Cemetery in Tioga, IL. Memorials may be made to Bethany Cemetery or the donor's choice. Services are under the direction of Triplett Funeral Homes.
