Marvin Ufkes

Marvin G. Ufkes, 97, of Homosassa, Florida, (formerly of Golden and Quincy, Illinois), passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Sturgill Hospice House in Brooksville, Florida.  He was born on April 3, 1927, in Golden, Illinois, a son of Gerhard and Anna (Huls) Ufkes.  He married Vernice Von Holt on October 8, 1950, in Golden, Illinois. She survives.

He was a farmer in the Golden, Illinois area for many years. He worked as the Houston Township Road Commissioner and was an officer with the State of Illinois Township officials.

Marvin was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden, Illinois, and the First Lutheran Church in Inverness, Florida.  He served as past president of the Golden Lions Club and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.  He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and attended many games over the years.   Marvin and Vernice have had the opportunity to travel all over the country.  In 2015 Marvin and Vernice moved to Homosassa, Florida to be close to their family.

In addition to his wife, Vernice, he is survived by his children, Michael (Sondra) Ufkes, and Patricia Kindhart all of Homosassa, Florida, grandson, Eric Ufkes of Homosassa, Florida. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Carl, Rev. William, and Albertus Ufkes; son-in-law, Glen Kindhart; five sisters, Margaret Jansen, Hilda Eilers, Tina LaBonde, Elnora Arns, Rosetta Ufkes; and a granddaughter, Shannon Ufkes.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the Triplett Funeral Home in Golden, Illinois. Rev. Jeffrey Corson will officiate.  Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Golden, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
