Merle Cornwell

Merle E. Cornwell, 92, of Loraine passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018 in the North Adams Home in Mendon.

Merle was born on December 18, 1925 in Mendon to the late Elmer and Harriett (Evans) Cornwell. He married Alice June Johnson on September 24, 1949 in Keokuk, IA. Alice June passed away on October 23, 2008. To this Union was born two children, Patrick (Mary Ann) and Johnson  (Tammy) Cornwell. Patrick Preceded Merle in death on November 20, 2010.

Also surviving are; Johnson’s Children, Casey Joe (Ashley) Cornwell, Dustin Lee Cornwell, Kelley Johnson Cornwell, Jacey Christine Cornwell; Patrick’s children; Christopher Patrick (Jessica) Cornwell, Heather Nicole (Nick) Cornwell Morrone, Nathan Thomas Cornwell, Kayla Danielle (Derick) Cornwell Tournear; four great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Melody Cornwell and Arianna Cornwell and Isaiah Morrone.

Merle graduated from Mendon Township High School and attended Colorado A&M University in Fort Collins, CO.  He was a lifelong farmer in the Loraine-Mendon- Bigneck areas. He loved to socialize with family and friends and never missed going to a grandchild’s event with Alice June. He and Alice June did everything together. Merle was a very humble man and a man of high integrity and ideals, his word was his bond.

Services will be 10:00 A.M Saturday, May 19, 2018 in the First Congregation Church in Mendon with Bruce Willard officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in Curless Cemetery near Loraine. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M until 7:00 P.M on Friday, May 18, 2018 in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the North Adams Home.
