Naomi Simmons

Naomi Ann Simmons, 86, of Mendon, Illinois, passed away at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at her home in Mendon.  She was born on August 31, 1936, in Quincy, Illinois, a daughter of Herbert and Iona (Stratman) Dedert.  Naomi married Darwin Simmons on November 19, 1955, in St. Paul United Church of Christ in Fowler, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on January 10, 2012.

Naomi was a graduate of Mendon Township High School. They bought their house in Mendon which she has lived until her death. The only other home she lived in was on the farm with her parents. Naomi was a homemaker until all her children were in school. She then worked as a cook at Mendon Elementary for several years. She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church and Adams County Home Extension. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, counted cross stitch, and working on puzzles.

She is survived by her children, Richard (Beverly) Simmons of Ursa, Illinois, Robert (Pamela) Simmons and Debra (Ken) Smith both of Mendon, grandchildren, Andrew and Brock Simmons, Landon (Kim) Smith, Kendra (Jason) Turner, Carley (Anthony) Sherrill, Kelsey Simmons, Cameron (Tiffany) Mittelberg, and Amber (Brandon) Altmix, great grandchildren, Kayzley Turner, Jayden Turner, Koltyn Smith, Lincoln Smith, Addison Mittelberg, Christina Mittelberg, and Alexandria Altmix, brother, Gary (Joanne) Dedert of Fowler, Illinois, sister, Beverly Isaacks of Mendon, Illinois.  Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Darwin, and daughter, Dawn Mittelberg.

A Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon.

Funeral Services for Naomi will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon. Pastor Jeff Courson to officiate.  Interment in New Providence Cemetery near Ursa, Illinois.
