GOLDEN, Ill. -- Norman W. Taylor, 82, of Golden, went to be with his Lord and Saviour at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday (March 11, 2014) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
He was born Nov. 11, 1931, in Toms Creek, Va., a son of the late Garfield and Lily Kiser Taylor. He married Beverly Lorraine Lawton on April 28, 1956, in Chicago. She died July 10, 2009.
Norm was stationed with the U.S. Army as a tank platoon sergeant in Germany during the Korean War. He was a truck driver for various companies' including Bemis and ABF, and retired from Architectural Woodworking.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church near Camp Point where he served as deacon, trustee and bus driver and worked with the VBS program. He was a regular member of the Suzy Q's Coffee Club. He enjoyed collecting oil lamps and coins, hunting, gardening and playing rook, and was a Chicago Cubs fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He leaves to cherish fond memories four children, Karyn St. Amand of Grand Blanc, Mich., Don (Terri) Taylor of Bloomington, Janice (Mark) Stupka of Ankeny, Iowa, and Pastor Jerry (Donna) Taylor of Plymouth; 15 grandchildren, Keith "Ricky" (Brittany) St. Amand, Kameron (Aimee) St. Amand, Kordell and Krystina St. Amand, Brandon and Kelsey Taylor, Bethany (Joseph) Gittins, Andrew (Sondra) Stupka, Tiffany and Nathan Stupka, Kassandra and Lorraine Taylor, Kaitlin (Corey) Hamilton, and Ashlan and Clara Taylor; five great-grandchildren, Brady St. Amand, Bristol Gittins, Jada Stupka, Kaden Benson and Jaxson Reed; one brother, Robert (Kay) Taylor of Palatine; one brother-in-law, James Lawton of Paducah, Ky.; three sisters-in-law, Joan Taylor of Dorsey, Betty Miller of Cedar Park, Texas, and Bea Fisher of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by one grandson, Kraig St. Amand; two brothers, Aubrey and Raymond Taylor; and one sister, Jewell Lawton.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday in Faith Baptist Church, Camp Point, with Pastor Tom Robbins and Pastor Jerry Taylor conducting. Interment will be in Golden Memorial Gardens with military rites by Golden American Legion Post 801 and the Illinois Military Honors Detail.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Hunter Funeral Home, Golden, and 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday in the church.
