Paul E. Hesse, 90, of Quincy died on Saturday (July 12, 2014) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Paul was born on March 31, 1924, in Ursa Township to the late August and Fay Houdyschell Hesse. Paul married Mary M. Tieken on June 16, 1945, in Fort Riley, Kan. Mary died Jan. 31, 2014.

Paul attended Mendon Township High School in Mendon, where he met his wife Mary. He graduated in 1942.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the 48th Quarter Master Corp, Graves Registration Division. He was on the third Great River Honor Flight trip in 2010.

He retired from Moorman Manufacturing after 32 years of service.

Paul was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Quincy and the Bear Creek American Legion at Mendon.

Surviving are two children, James (Peggy) Hesse of Mendon and Susan (Larry) Culp of Decatur; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Byron) Sparrow of Stronghurst, Curtis Hesse of Ursa, Diane Hesse of Ursa, Benjamin (Amanda) Hesse of Coatsburg, Justin (Sasha) Culp of Decatur, and Tully (Melinda) Culp of Indianapolis; nine great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jacob and Mitchell Sparrow, Kelsey Hammer, Maxwell and Amberlynn Culp, Jersey Hesse, Dallas and Madison Garcia; his dog, Peanut; and several nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon with the Rev. Joe Tomich and the Rev. Gayle Pope officiating.

VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon.

MEMORIALS: Christ Lutheran Church or the Bear Creek American Legion.

ARRANGEMENTS: Hunter Funeral Home, Mendon.
