R. Darren “Big D” Powell, 33, of Rushville, passed away at 7:13 PM, Sunday, October 6, 2019, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
He was born on December 14, 1985, in Springfield, the son of Rodney Dale and Penny (Leverton) Powell.
Surviving are his mother Penny Powell of Rushville, grandparents Dick and Myrna Powell of Rushville, one brother Ryan Powell and wife Candi of Hawaii, three sisters Tara Powell of Clayton, Kayla Boudreaux and husband Carlos of Kingman, Arizona and Megan Powell, of Clayton and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Also surviving are the Mike Carey Family that Darren viewed as his second family. He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents Howard and Mildred “Mim” Leverton cousin Chris Kloker and his dog Tough Boy.
Darren was a 2004 graduate of Rushville High School. He participated in the Macomb Park District Special Olympics in softball, basketball, track and field, and bowling. He was presented the 2017 Marjorie Connor Award. He first worked baling hay and mowing yards for Carey’s Farm and Home. He was currently working as a greeter and bagger at County Market in Rushville.
He was a member of the Hope Church, a Free Methodist Community, in Rushville. He enjoyed horses, and hunting and training beagles with his grandpa. He was a huge fan of the Rushville Rockets, St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers.
Services will be at noon on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Pastor David Ball officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to Noon Saturday, October 12, 2019, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville
