Richard E. “Rick” Ashcraft, 71, of Rushville, passed away at 1:30 AM, Saturday, October 23, 2021, at his home.
He was born on July 5, 1950, in Rushville, the son of Richard and Ailene (Smith) Ashcraft. He married Carolyne Howard on November 16, 1968, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville and she survives
Also surviving are his son Jamie Ashcraft and wife Susan of Rushville, seven grandchildren Cody Ashcraft and wife Amelia, Hunter Ashcraft and fiancée Taylor, Jake Ashcraft, Tanner Ashcraft, Ava Ashcraft, Hannah Ester and Phillip Esther and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons Ricky Ashcraft and Michael Ashcraft.
Rick was a 1969 graduate of Rushville High School. He first worked for the State of Illinois Highway Department. In 1974, he began working for Amax Coal north of Rushville. He joined his dad at Rick & Rich’s in 1983, and took over ownership in 1985. He operated the family business until selling the bar to his son Jamie in 2013.
He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville, the Beardstown Elks Lodge and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed all kinds of hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed golfing. He played in the Wednesday Night Men’s Golf League for many years. He had several holes-in-one with his first one at Scripps Park in June 2021. He enjoyed his many golf trips with his buddies to Mississippi. Rick was also a huge Cubs fan. The only thing Rick enjoyed more than having a beer with his friends was spending time with his family. His grandchildren were everything to him.
Graveside Services will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at the Rushville City Cemetery, with Pastor Jason Triplett and Reverend Fred Fritz officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials are suggested to Hope Blooms.
