Robert Dittmer

Robert G. Dittmer, 92, of Mendon passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018 in Sunset Home in Quincy.

Bob was born on May 5, 1925 in Honey Creek Township in Adams County. He was the son of John Herman and Mary (Tenvorde) Dittmer. He married Luella R. Padgett on June 25, 1949 in Dietrich, Illinois. Luella passed away on June 2, 2011.

Bob was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Mendon.  He was a lifelong farmer in the Mendon area and a member of the Rural Youth and the F.F.A. He had been on the Unit 4 School Board for many years and was a past 4-h leader in Bigneck. He enjoyed farming and socializing.

Surviving are; four children, John Robert Dittmer of Macomb, Dennis (Beverly) Dittmer of Liberty, Michael George Dittmer of Decatur, Ruth Ann McGrew (Ken) of Good Hope; four grandchildren, Melissa (Joey) Houston of Golden, Jenna (Adam) Jenkins of Camp Point, Renee McGrew of Good Hope, Ryan McGrew of Good Hope; one great grandchild, Amelia Houston of Golden and two sisters, M. Rosemary Ashbaker of O’Fallon, IL. and Dolores Dempsey of Pittsfield.

He was preceded in death by; and infant son, Mark Joseph Dittmer; one daughter, Janet Louise Vlach; three brothers, Donald, Harvey and Junior Dittmer and one sister, Dorothy Shilt.

A memorial mass will be 10:00 A.M on Monday, March 12, 2018 in St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Mendon with Father Jeff Stone officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Southside Cemetery in Clayton. There will be no visitation but friends are invited to the mass and fellowship immediately following the mass in the basement of the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions have been suggested to the Unity FFA Program or the St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church.
