Ronald L. Jones

Ronald L. Jones, 82, of Lima, Illinois passed away at 8:37 am on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. He was born at home in Lima on March 29, 1941, the youngest son of Jesse and Maxine (Flack) Jones.

He was a 1959 graduate of Unity High School in Mendon. After high school, Ron served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He married Kara Sue Bevill on November 21, 1971, at Mt. Zion Church in Bethel, Missouri. She preceded him in death on April 17, 1992.

Ron started his career as a carpenter for JB Thorton. He went on to start Ron Jones Construction where he did everything from new construction to remodels. He loved carpentry, woodworking, and Yahtzee. He always had a woodworking project to work on; he had a passion for restoring antique tools and furniture. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and spending time with his family. Ron was known for his cooking and jelly. He loved preparing meals for his friends and family, especially at the holidays. His favorite moto was “anything is possible with patience, persistence, and a little sweet oil”.

He is survived by two sons and five grandchildren. Michael (Lisa Wernli) Jones of Johnston, Iowa and sons Steven and Caleb. Travis (Nora Menschel) Jones of Lima, Illinois and daughters Ivy, Gwen, and Hailey.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kara, and siblings Merlin, Betty, Dean, Donna Hendrickson, and Jack Jones.

Funeral Services for Ron will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the Crossing in Lima Illinois. Pastor Larry Menschel to officiate. Interment will be at the Lima Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois.
