Rosalie M. Morrell, 97, of Camden, passed away at 1:50 PM, Thursday, January 20, 2022, at the home of her daughter in Quincy.
She was born on September 12, 1924, in McDonough County, Illinois, the fifth child of Clarence Arthur and Gladys Cornelia (Morris) Billingsley. She married Morris Morrell on February 25, 1945, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on September 17, 2016.
Surviving are three children, Sharon Topel, of Quincy, Gary Morrell and wife Marsha, of Camden, and Carl "Russ" Morrell and husband Greg Gerhart of St. Louis, Missouri, three grandchildren, Joe Topel and wife Amy of Mendon, Andrew Topel of Quincy and Tom Topel and wife Hannah of Oxford, United Kingdom, one great grandchild, Miriam Topel, sisters Betty Etter and husband Bill of Rushville, Barbara Taylor of Burlington, Iowa, brother Wayne Billingsley and wife Twila of Crossville, Tennessee, sisters-in-law Alberta Billingsley and Judy Peterman both of Rushville, Clara Billingsley of Industry and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Sam Topel, brothers Clarence E. “Buss” Billingsley and wife Imogene, James “Rude” Billingsley and wife Birdie, Robert Billingsley and wife Harriet, Morris “Ike” Billingsley and wife Helen “Marie”, Lester “Abe” Billingsley, Harold Billingsley, Donald Billingsley, sister Lucille Finch and husband Adrian and brother-in-law Dick Taylor.
Rosalie worked at Kresge’s Five and Dime in Little Rock, Arkansas while her husband was in the service. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, taking walks and decorative tole painting and was a long-time member of the Western Illinois Tole Society. She had been a member of Bethany Bible Church near Camden. Later she attended Columbus Road Baptist Church in Quincy.
Services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Pastor Tom Robbins officiating. Interment will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. It is requested that those attending the service wear a mask. Memorials are suggested to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice. A recording of the service will be posted here Tuesday afternoon.
