Junior was born April 6, 1927, in Siloam to the late William S. "Sam" and Bertha Elizabeth Sparks McDowell. He married Wanda Campbell on Aug. 6, 1955, in Quincy. Wanda survives of Loraine.
Junior served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer in the Loraine area. He was a member of the Quincy American Legion, Ursa AmVets, Hamilton VFW, DAV and Rocky Point Democrat Club. He enjoyed playing euchre.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the kindness shown by the staff of the Ulery Unit at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Surviving are two children, Shelly Jung of Mendon and Steve McDowell and his significant other, Lori Wear, of Loraine; two grandchildren, Jared and Jacob Jung, both of Mendon; Steve and Lori's children, Brad (Jessica) Palmisano, David (Heather) Palmisano, Andrana (Joe) Starks and Jimmy (Amy) Palmisano and their families; one aunt, Irene McDowell, of Baylis; and two sisters-in-law, Marge McDowell of LaHarpe and Eileen McDowell of Clayton.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Forrest and Donald McDowell; and one sister, Mildred Harvey.
SERVICES:10 a.m. Friday in the Hunter Funeral Home, Mendon, with Pastor Rob Lanning conducting. Interment will be in New Providence Cemetery near Ursa.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
MEMORIALS: Loraine Lions Club or Iowa Veterans Home Activity Fund, Marshalltown.
