Thomas R. Griggs, 85, of Meyer, IL, passed away at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at his home. He was born on December 16, 1935 in Meyer, IL, a son of Margaret Booher. He married Norma L. Clair on March 18, 1955, at Salem Lutheran Church in Quincy. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2014.
Tom is survived by his four children, Gary T. Griggs (Linda) of Quincy, William C. “Rick” (Rhonda) Griggs of Quincy, Lisa K. (Gary) Baker of Quincy, Robert A. (Barbara) Griggs of Fowler; daughter-in-law, Rose Griggs of Quincy; nine grandchildren, Khoi, Joshua, Thomas, Sarah, Christopher, Amanda, Brandon, Heather, and Andrew; sixteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, wife and son, Jeff A. Griggs.
He graduated from Quincy High School in 1953. Tom began working for the Packaging Corporation in Quincy until its closing in 1979. He owned and operated T.G.’s Gun Repair in Meyer, IL. He was later employed at Chaddock until retiring in 1997. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Tom collected many pencil sharpeners, Hardee’s California Raisins, and coins. He enjoyed spending time with family during the annual houseboat retreats, which they did for the last 20 years. He took pleasure in making hand crafted wooden creations, singing karaoke, and bowling. He was a proud Red Cross blood donor and a NRA card bearing citizen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon, with Josh Bailey officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon. Memorials may be made to The American Red Cross.
