Virgil attended Maplewood High School in Camp Point. In 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country in Berlin, Germany. Upon return from the Army he returned to Golden and began farming. He was a loving grandfather to his descendents and enjoyed their many accomplishments. He participated in league bowling and bowled a 300 in his life, which he was proud of. He was a good dancer and was always on the dance floor at the many weddings he attended throughout his life.
