Wayne K. Myers, 83, of Quincy, formerly of Loraine, passed away at 2:01 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Illinois Veteran’s Home.
He was born on October 17, 1941, in Hannibal, Missouri, the son of the late Thomas Lee & Pearl Jeanette (Uhland) Myers. Wayne graduated from Unity High School in 1959 and went on to serve in the United States Navy. He married Donna Jo Norris on June 1, 1963, in Ursa and she preceded him in death on September 8, 2017.
Wayne worked for Gardner Denver in Quincy for 36 years until his retirement in 1998. He had a few machinery patents that he designed while working at Gardner Denver. Following his retirement, Wayne & Donna Jo worked for many summers at Yellowstone National Park, a place that they enjoyed very much. Days off included hiking and exploring Yellowstone. During their time there, they met many lifelong friends from all around the United States and other countries. Wayne was an active member of the Faith Baptist Church of Camp Point where he served as Head Usher and enjoyed helping with their Vacation Bible School activities. He served on the Loraine Town Board for several years as well as serving on the Unit 4 Foundation board. Wayne enjoyed traveling, tinkering with old John Deere Garden tractors and tending to his garden. And above all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by two daughters; Brenda (Bernie) Venvertloh of Quincy & Karen (David) Wilson of Fowler, four grandchildren; Bradley Joseph (Ashley) Venvertloh, Benjamin Adam Venvertloh, Kayla Rae Wilson & Nathan James Wilson, two great grandchildren; Blakely Mae & Brynlee Jo Venvertloh, two sisters; Eleanor Wyatt of Quincy & Ethel (Gary) Johnson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a brother; Paul (Helen) Myers of Metamora and by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; a son, James Bradley Myers; and brother-in-law, John Wyatt.
